I teach classes and give workshops at a number of institutions. I also work with students privately to help them find their own voice and build a body of work. My private lessons are intense and students should be in a position to put a great deal of time into their work. I charge $100/per hour for these lessons and like to meet with a student at least once a month.

Still Life Painting
This one-day class is a focused introduction to the classic genre of still life painting. You will learn to indicate form with a single light source using the “five values.” Emphasis is placed on refining the composition with cropping, overlapping and placement in the picture plane. Beginning students work with a limited palette and paint a limited subject of two or three objects. Experienced students may work with a full palette and will learn about the use of warm and cool colors. Brushes, painting surfaces, mediums and palette preparation are discussed.
You may paint or draw and are expected to bring all of your supplies. Also, please bring at least six 9x12” and two 16x20” or 18x22” canvases. If you plan to focus on drawing alone, bring plenty of paper and charcoal pencils 6B and 4B, and some compressed and vine charcoal. Bring a bag lunch as we will work through the lunch hour.
