Pierre-Paul Prud'hon Images
Prud'hon's Approach to Drawing http://www.art.net/Studios/visual/Rebecca/OnPrudon2.html About Prud'hon Prud'hon was influenced by Neo-classicism, but best known as a romantic painter because of his allegorical paintings and portraits. He was the youngest of 10 children. His father was a silver smith who carved allegorical scenes into silver plate ware for the rich. Prud'hon went to Italy when he was 26 to study painting. When he returned to Paris, he decorated private mansions for wealthy Parisians. He painted Josephine in such a way that people thought he was in love with her, causing him to be dismissed by Napoleon from the palace. He was later asked back to Napoleon’s palace when his new wife wanted a similar portrait done of her. In the last few years of his life he did the drawings above. |
